The Power I Need

How many have thought to themselves “I could never be a missionary”?   Or thought that they would never be able to accomplish much for the Lord?  I thought the same.  But when I look back at who I, Debbie Tuvell Bowser, was I realize that I am not the same person that I used to be.  In fact if you ask my family they will tell you that they could never have imagined in their wildest dreams that I would become a missionary.  You see I was incredibly shy and timid and my only plan for the future was to be a mom with my family close by.

What happened?  How did I get from where I was to where I am now?  Day by day.  You see God had a plan for my life, as He has a plan for your life.  God never intended for me to change myself to fit into His plan for my life.  That is the job of the Holy Spirit.  When Jesus went to heaven after his resurrection from the dead, He told his disciples to “wait for the helper to come” (John 16:17).  We don’t have the ability or the power to change ourselves, live life daily without making mistakes, or be the kind of witness that we should be and that we read about in the Bible.  It was never God’s plan for us to do it alone!  That is why He sent the Holy Spirit to us.  God encourages us to walk in the Spirit in Galatians 5 and not in the flesh.  We need the Holy Spirit each and every day to have the power to live a life free of sin and to have the power to be witnesses.  It says in Acts 2:38 & 39 “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call”

So each day when you are confronted with a choice, choose to trust God.  Don’t worry about what you will say when God brings about opportunities to share God’s salvation to a lost world.  God will give you the words and the Holy Spirit will do the rest.  If Jesus’ disciples needed the Holy Spirit then don’t we too?
